Revealing the Hidden Barriers: Microaggressions in Construction
The construction industry is renowned for struggling with attracting and retaining women, so, we partnered with the National Association of Women in Construction in Australia to uncover the impact of microaggressions on this. A microaggression is a small act that makes you feel less welcome, less valued or less safe. By itself it might be a little thing, but when we add up all the microaggressions that take place over time, the impact becomes not so little.
With the research revealing that 88% of women have experienced microaggressions in the construction industry, it’s clear that this is a key priority to be addressed in order to foster a more inclusive industry.
Access the insights
- Discover how microaggressions show up and are experienced day-to-day
- Understand the impact on individuals, organisational and industry-wide
- Explore how to address and prevent microaggressions to contribute to a more inclusive construction industry
Why does this matter?
- High employee turnover associated with poor workplace culture leads to substantial financial losses and impairs the industry’s overall efficiency → the sector risks losing out on 50% of the potential talent pool if this culture persists.
- Homogenous teams lack the benefits of diverse perspectives, resulting in negative impacts on innovation and problem-solving.
- The first-movers within the industry that make a tangible difference in this space will have an incredible competitive advantage when it comes to hiring and retaining women and diverse talent.
